Small business growth and decline tends to persist and is not easily reversed, according to a study released today by the Office of Advocacy of the U.S. Small Business Administration. The authors will discuss the report during an economic roundtable before The Center for Economic Studies of the U.S. Census Bureau. Drs. Rich Perline, Robert Axtell, and Daniel Teitelbaum of NuTech Solutions wrote Volatility and Asymmetry of Small Firm Growth Rates Over Increasing Time Frames with funding from the Office of Advocacy. Perline and Axtell will present the report to The Center for Economic Studies. read more...
Stuart M. Kauffman, professor of biocomplexity and informatics at the University of Calgary and external professor at the Santa Fe Institute, as well as a Director of NuTech Solutions, and founder of the Bios Group, which was acquired by NuTech Solutions in 2003, has authored an article in Scientific American called, "The Evolution of Future Wealth." In the article he discusses how technologies evolve much as species do, and that underappreciated fact is the key to growth. Accoring to Professor Kauffman, the path to maximum prosperity will depend on finding ways to build economic systems in which new niches will generate spontaneously and abundantly. Learning to apply lessons from biology to technology will usher in a remarkable era of innovation and growth. read more...

While OEMs attempt to bring unique and highly-complex designs to market in a reduced time, NuTech Solutions' ClearVu Engineering solution permits companies to support a virtual design process that facilitates a faster, cost efficient development cycle. Its powerful nonlinear global optimizer - based on techniques known as evolutionary strategies - is able to provide quantifiable value for design engineers at various stages of the engineering process and in less time than the individual optimizer programs that manufacturers have used in the past. read more...
Today’s leading-edge engineering teams are using a new method of reservoir simulation history-matching and production forecasting developed by NuTech Solutions and Advanced Resources International. Reservoir simulation using the COMET3 reservoir simulator (for unconventional gas reservoirs) combined with the Intelligent Business Engine for Optimization™ is proving to be both more efficient and more accurate than the previous modeling techniques. This optimized history matching procedure using evolutionary strategies has been successfully applied to an enhanced coalbed methane (CBM) well case in Poland, and is also being used on multi-branch, horizontal CBM pinnate well case in China, and conventional (vertical) multi-seam CBM wells in Canada and the U.S. read more...
NuTech Solutions, a leader in the commercialization of advanced software for prediction and optimization, announced today that David Davis, Ph.D., a NuTech Senior Fellow, will kick off the Fall 2006 distinguished speaker series at the University of Houston’s Supply Chain Research Center (SCRC) on September 14th. Kevin Kostuik, NuTech vice president of industry solutions, looks forward to learning about the best ways to support giving through SEED.
Because of the press of business, it's difficult for small companies to start initiatives, especially for charity, Kostuik says. "Our goal is not to make just a small contribution, but to get people involved in a consistent way," he says. "This is a great way to start. I, personally, and our company view this as an opportunity to establish a tradition, not just in philanthropy but in the sweat-equity side of things."
